"This seventh annual meeting, co-sponsored by HED and the U.S. Agency for International Development, will examine the impact of higher education partnerships in South and East Asia, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe and Eurasia.
"Participants will include universities and colleges that have received USAID funding over the past ten years to determine the impact that institutional partnerships have had on social and economic development. The aim is to show the role of higher education in human development and poverty reduction, economic growth and competitiveness and in promoting good governance. The meeting will highlight the importance of coalitions in countries where higher education partnerships with government and the private sector are required to address key development issues; the importance of university-to-university collaboration, where research is essential to solving development problems, and the need for long-term training to build necessary human and institutional capacity.
"This year's meeting will be quite different from previous ones in that HED is inviting "alumni" award recipients to come back and share how their partnerships have been sustained, or not sustained, since the end of their HED (ALO) funding. Up to 200 alumni representatives are expected to attend.
